The Tech Report recently reviewed a Gigabyte motherboard using a " Hybrid EFI " BIOS. It's true that this Gigabyte implementation isn't UEFI from the ground up, which makes it different from most UEFI implementations in the market. Most microcontrollers, DSPs or other types of embedded processors boot pretty fast, typically in the order of a couple hundred milliseconds or less. But if you're using an Intel® Architecture processor and running a standard BIOS, boot times are measured in seconds.
