Hello,
I tried to configure the Gigabit Ethernet test modes on an Intel 82574 Gigabit Ethernet controller without success.
HW 1: Intel Gigabit CT Desktop Adapter with Intel 82574 Gigabit Ethernet controller
HW 2: Own design with Intel 82574 Gigabit Ethernet controller
I used the LANConf program from the Quartzville_Tools_256087.zip archive under Linux on HW 1 and 2. In LANConf I selected "IEEE Tests" -> "1 Gbps" -> "40.6.1.2.1 - Peak Differential Output Voltage and Level Accuracy". Then I watched the Ethernet signals lines at the test fixture with a scope, but I cannot see the waveform as shown in Intel "1000BASE-T/100BASE-TX/10BASE-T Physical Layer Compliance Tests Manual" Figure 2-1. I just see the waveform as shown in the attached screen shot.
I repeated the test with the manual PHY setting as described in
http://communities.intel.com/community/wired/blog/2011/07/01/intel-82574-gigabit-ethernet-controller-sw-features-faq , but that didn't succeed neither.
Is there an EEPROM setting that prevents the Ethernet controller from entering the test mode?
Thanks for your help in advance.
cu,
Daniel
Hi Daniel,
i don't think so it should have any that kind of configurable parameters in EPROM content, can you please let me know whether you are able to ping to any other ip address or not ?
The communication via both boards works perfectly, i.e. ping works. It is just a matter of performing the Gigabit Ethernet conformance test.

Daniel
It looks like there is a bug in LANCONF right now.
As a workaround:
Choose:
"40.6.1.2.1 - Peak Differential Output Voltage and Level Accuracy"
(You won't see a change)
Press "Esc"
Choose again:
"40.6.1.2.1 - Peak Differential Output Voltage and Level Accuracy"
(The second time you choose this item it actually starts Test Mode 1)
