Designing multi-core processors into palm-size solutions – What challenges must be faced?

    Brown Belt

We can easily foresee that the future holds mobile solutions that fit into the palm of our hands. They very likely will be built around multi-core processors. I spoke of this in a recent multi-core blog entitled ""

The issues of high performance, small size, low power consumption, smart-battery support, advanced graphics capabilities, ruggedness are all well on their way to being fully addressed by architectures that will pick up from the Intel® Atom(TM) processor and solutions that will be built around them (example: nanoETXexpress COM Express compatible computer-on-modules).

What other key design challenges are to be faced as multi-core processors are brought into the ever-shrinking mobile application space?
